Who Would Jesus Torture?

Something is really wrong with this.
A study out today says that “The more often Americans go to church, the more likely they are to support the torture of suspected terrorists, according to a new survey.” Source: CNN.com
Every now and again something comes out that causes me to shake my head and wonder “What are they thinking?” This story is one of those times. Do evangelical Christians really think that torture is consistent with their faith? Or is it just that evangelical Christians are more likely to align with a political group that thinks that the end justifies the means regardless of the morality of the means?
The psalmist says:
I hold back my feet from every evil way, in order to keep your word. – Psalm 119:101 ESV
Torture is wrong regardless of the reason.
