Good article.

As to your comment, "If love for others is the badge of a Christian, does this mean that not showing love to others is a roundabout way of denying Jesus?"

I would say for the most part the answer would be yes. But to others I guess that would depend on the person's understanding of how love behaves. We have 1 Corithians 13 but we also have the examples of when Jesus spoke the truth to ears that didn't want to hear it...it may have not sounded like love to them but it was (Ephesians 4:15).

Also in the context of the verse the "love" was to be directed at other Christians and not the world in general. It would be the world who would recognize the love shown to other Christians.

As far as the world is concerned - when it comes to Christianity and living out the life of Christ, it will always be a "love/hate relationship." (John 7:7; 12:25; 15:18,19; 17:14)

Take care Scott.

Matt,
Thanks for the advice. I'm back to my regular mileage, but mainly in my regular shoes (Nike Air Pegasus). However, I threw on my VFF's in last week for one shorter run. This coming week I'll try one, or maybe two runs a week in them. I'll keep doing that for a while and be more gradual about the number of runs I do in a week in VFF's. In my run last week, I made a real conscious effort to maintain a proper gait and to shorten my stride.

While I'd like to fully transition to VFF's at some point, I need to be prepared to only be able to use them as the occasional training aid. I usually run 20-30 miles a week. How much of that will be in VFF's is up in the air right now. Even with that minor setback I still think the experiment has been worth it.

You need to ease into VFF's, and you shouldn't run fast in them to start. When you start you need to listen to your body and know when to hold back. My first few runs in VFF's where up to a minute slower per mile. Also, you shouldn't be on the ball of your foot the entire time (which is most likely what caused your calf cramps), you need to relax and let your foot pronate properly allowing the foot to land flat after striking on the midfoot. Also, a month may be a bit to fast to get up to your regular mileage. As an ultrarunner who normally logs 50-60 miles a week when not racing, I have yet to log more than 15 miles in one week in a pair of VFF's, and I've been running minimalist for 18 months now. Take a little time and relax with them and you'll really learn to enjoy them. BEST of luck in your future minimalist running!!!
